Creative Insights From A PR Sphere
My exposure in the field of journalism has helped me hone the skills that enabled me to shift to PR. I remember writing essays, features and news reports, and then reading a lot of pieces in newspapers and magazines because awareness of current events, as well as the current market trends was critical to my job. Reflecting on the skills built through my experience, I have noticed both similarities and differences in the different sides of the communication field.
The Big Changes
My transition to the PR Industry was overwhelming. There was a lot more bustle than my past experiences. Although I have had experiences in journalism and marketing, being focused on the PR line of work was different.
I had to develop a new skill set and routine to keep up with this fast-paced environment, becoming attuned and aware of the ever-changing shift in the media landscapes and the public sentiment.
Being agile, not just with my actions, but also with my mental capability to adapt and respond to changes proactively.
As demanding as it is, the PR environment is just as exhilarating.
Creative Sanctuary in the PR Environment
PR’s competitive landscape was a catalyst for me to adapt accordingly. I decided not to lose sight of my goal to maintain creativity while navigating new terrain and the workings of an integrated communications agency. My first few months at Atteline sharpened my perspective, allowing me to practice my crafts fully.
The exposure to the field helped me to reflect on how my life was changing, providing me with better insight into how to grow as a person with ideals and aspirations.
Throughout my six months at Atteline, I realised several factors that helped in my growth:
- The inspiration through diversity and cultural insights shared – there are numerous ways and approaches to look at a story.
- The different perspectives provided through a collaborative approach or brainstorming – which has immensely helped when exploring and refining ideas.
- Time management and organisational skills – maximising productivity during my workday and switching my routine to a healthier and more balanced approach to tasks.
- A change in perspective and mindset – reflecting on my approach to life, the things that work and those that need readjustment. Sometimes, this means detaching to recalibrate to work on specific tasks or projects effectively and efficiently.
The Creative Sphere Through Work and Life Harmony
With all this said, it is important to note that one of the most important things is having work-life harmony. This is equivalent to forging a career path while fostering my creative endeavours. As I traverse the PR industry with awareness and an open mind, I find new perspectives that nourish me as an individual.
Creativity isn’t just a talent or a gift. It’s a skill and mindset that allows me to see beyond the typical processes and turn possibilities into realities. At Atteline, prioritising with intent and purpose is the key. It is not about finding time through the hustle and bustle but making time to persevere and maintain my ability to craft and create.
