Position is everything. Success isn’t about having a presence on every platform, but rather, it is about strategically selecting the one. In other words, it is about precision. Therefore, it is important to assess which platform aligns with your targeted audience.

To make the most impact, you must know where your message will resonate the most with the audience.

Know Your Audience, Know Yourself

Before the race for viral posts and the rush to feel validated by a blue tick – which you can now pay to subscribe – there was a different intention behind social media. It was created to help people connect.

And yet, here we are, living what feels like a real-life version of Mean Girls. I’m not suggesting you pull a Lindsay Lohan and break your metaphorical plastic crown to prove how “authentic” you are. Instead, you can find common ground through being vulnerable, just like the characters did towards the end of the movie.

So, where does that leave us? It all starts with understanding what drives your audience. What motivates them? What challenges do they face? Once you have those answers, the next step is to tie them back to your brand’s authentic voice.

Ask yourself, what is your brand’s archetype? Are you The Sage, offering wisdom and insight? The Dreamer, inspiring hope and possibility? Or perhaps The Lover, celebrating connection and emotion?

When your content meets your audience’s needs and stays true to your brand’s truth, it becomes more than just another post. It creates a meaning. Take Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna – brands that understand their audiences.

The Art of Timing

Timing isn’t just about posting when your audience is online. It’s about knowing when to advance or retreat (quality over quantity).

While viral trends can make for high engagement and exposure, creating success comes from consistency – you don’t want to become a one-hit wonder!

To make an impact, focus on the fundamental truths about human nature and strategy. The platforms may change, but the principles of positioning, understanding, and timing remain constant.
